Intel's Paul alleges discrimination by Europeans

He says he was singled out for not being an Euro. He is ready for a Title VII action -- or the equivalent in Europe.

AMD has taken 23.5% of the overall CPU market.

Hector's asset-lite strategy will kick-in in 2009. after the jury awards AMD $61.5 billion in treble damages and AMD owns all of Intel's FABs - sans the workers.

It's alarming that the EU seems to only be going after successful and profitable companies. Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm - it lends to the credibility of the accusations starting to come forward that the EU is simply going after these global companies because companies in the EU can't compete globally.

And hey, fuckwit, if you're going to fraudulently claim to have a ph.d the least you could do is act like it and learn to spell and not type in incoherent babble half the time (read back through his posts for some amazing clues as to how there's no way in hell he can have a ph.d)

Spaztic Pizza brings up a good point. Although Microsoft clearly falls under the "bully" category, a lot of the negative attention it receives might just be because it's an American corporation. The French government banned the use of Blackberries because it feared Americans would have access to the information passing those devices. Europe is quickly ramping up its own GPS network (forget what it's called) In other words... if it's American, they want it out of their country and a home grown version instead.

Back on topic... I think that Intel coming under scrutiny in Europe is pretty meaningless like Spaztic has pointed out. Just another way of dragging down an American corporation. If AMD actually had any profits to go after, they would likely find themselves in the same situation.

In summary... Sharikou is still a retard and AMD is still getting its teeth kicked in by Intel.

Trust busters are bound to go after large and successful companies, since they're the only ones who are realistically able to take advantage of their dominant position, if they choose to do so. As long as Intel has not broken any rules they will be okay. I suspect that even if they are found in violation of any laws they won't be fined $3.2 billion. I doubt they'd be fined very much, really.

It's an interesting situation. The EU can't just tell Intel to bug off, as that would hurt both Intel (loss of sales) and Europe (loss of supply). AMD would love that, they'd be able to sell CPUs for tens of thousands of dollars and still have a high demand to fill, heh.

But I don't expect anything earth-shaking to come of it. People love to throw around big numbers when this stuff is going on, but absent a really bad smoking gun, it never happens.

Intel has not been found guilty. Even if they were, I agree the fine would be nowhere near $3.2bn. The EU could have fined Microsoft some $4bn. The amount they were actually fined was something around $500M and that was a record fine.

If Intel is found guilty, the worst they'll face is $500M. More importantly than that, AMD wouldn't see a cent of that money.

BTW Spaztic Pizza, you missed Apple in your list of sucessful companies the EU is going after. It seems if you are a successful American corporation that's invented something that's truly changed the world i.e. the microprocessor, Windows (the software :-P) or the iPod, the EU is just going to come after you.

Sharikou, that market share data seems low considering your past 'prediction'.

You wrote this last year:

3Q07: AMD FAB36 ramps to 20,000wspm at 65nm. FAB38 ramps. Chartered FAB7 ramps. AMD grabs >50% of market share.

Then again, in the vary same posting you stated that by Q4'07 (i.e. now) Intel would be bankrupt.

I didn't really research other companies being targeted by the European Trade Gestapo...I did know about Apple just didn't include 'em... :)

I said in another thread - Microsoft, who has a CASH RESERVE OF 49 BILLION, was fined less than 500 million. Intel's cash reserve is 10 billion. EU fines are based on a percentage so Intel's will be no where NEAR Microsofts - I'm guessing in the 200m range.

And giant is very correct - AMD will not see dime one of that money.

Sharifraud's babble that AMD would be given all of Intel's fabs is so much garbage. The EU has -0- control over any companies assets, regardless of where they are. Even IF they seized Intel's European assets (which in all honestly I don't know what they hold in the EU) they have no legal authority or means to seize any of Intel's assets in the US, Middle East, or anywhere else.

It just shows how moronic Sharikook really is and how little this retarded AMD bootlicker really understands about the semiconductor industry, corporate industry and law, or just life in general it seems. And anyone who follows his pathetic lines of reasoning and agrees with him is just as fucking stupid.

The EU is going to be cautious in how it handles the case, because they don't want foreign investment to suffer. Think about it, if they were to levy heavy fines and confiscate property, would you be willing to open up a factory or even a corporate office in Europe?

The EU wants companies to play along with a set of rules, but they are not going to cut off their own nose to spite their faces.

which in all honestly I don't know what they hold in the EU

I think the main asset Intel owns in the EU is the 300mm/65nm fab in Ireland.

I said in another thread - Microsoft, who has a CASH RESERVE OF 49 BILLION

It's not quite that huge, but it's still massive. About $23bnn in cash and short term assets according to MS:

http://www.microsoft.com/msft/earnings/FY07/earn_rel_q4_07.mspx#Balance

At once stage MS had over $50bn in cash. But then they gave out that massive $30bn dividend.

You can see Intel's assets and cash here: http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/irol/10/101302/2007Q3IntelEarningsReleaseFinal_2.pdf

It appears to be a bit over $10bn.

MS has it easy with the cash. Intel might rake it in, but they spends billions on the fabs and technology.

BTW, see this cool Intel video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI5GCsZCgeo

They talk about the process technology a bit, and some the machines that are used in a fab. It's quite interesting.

They make claims that erratum are horrible for Intel and proves that Intel makes a bad cpu, but totally ignore the fact that AMD's erratum lists are longer than Intel's and contain some errors that are quite a bit more serious than Intel's in some instances.

If the EU is going after companies for dumping, I would imagine that they're going after American companies because I would imagine that EU anti-dumping law is similar to US anti-dumping law. The US can't prosecute US companies for dumping, because it's only dumping when it's a foreign company. Domestic companies can't dump (by definition), so can't be prosecuted.

In any case, selling below cost is not in and of itself dumping, and there are perfectly sound reasons to sell at below cost that have nothing to do with being anti-competitive.

Rumor has it that Phenom is scheduled to debut at 2.2 and 2.4GHz, but for all intents and purposes, Phenom is simply a re-badged Barcelona. If AMD can't deliver 2GHz parts in-channel six weeks after launching Barcelona, there doesn't seem to be much reason to expect the company will be able to launch 2.2GHz+ chips in wide availability anytime soon. Paper launching would look particularly bad for AMD at this point, given that Intel's own 45nm launch is imminent, with parts expected to be on the shelf within days of the launch event.

AMD SLAMMED BY ASUS

Their CPU 2002-2006 product performance was better. Since mid 2006 we feel Intel regained the lead. Departure of top executives is a big challenge for AMD, in my opinion. Our concern is also the combination of no product leadership with reduced volumes. There seems to be no clear near-term strategy how to win back the lead.

Last October they had processor shortage for the whole quarter. Vendors, including Asus, were forced to switch to Intel even further. The same shortage repeated this last quarter with ATI GPUs. Finally, they suddenly changed their focus to top tier vendors from us, the OEMs. I feel the relationship has not yet reached the required stability for consistent business.

Also, we are concerned about their continuous one generation process technology lag behind Intel, while the on board memory controller and interconnects will be anyway matched by Intel during next year. However, I feel that the 2009 Fusion is a great chance for AMD to succeed with integrated processor and GPU approach.

We've already seen MS's record fine, and they are bigger than Intel. Fine size will not exceed $500M even if Intel is found guilty. Of course, Intel has $12.5bn in the bank right now. Any EU fine would be a drop in the bucket. With Intel earning $1.9bn in the last quarter alone.

What did AMD earn? A $396M loss! INTEL PROFITS UP 64%. AMD PROFITS DOWN 400%!

It reminds me of AMD's legal complaint against intel. AMD complains that Intel offers rebates, and incentives to do business with Intel. But in the very same document they admit to doing the very same thing. e.g. giving Compaq a million free CPUs to do more business with AMD.

While Otellini gets on driving Intel to new record highs in revenue and profits, with awesome new stuff like the 45nm HK/MG AMD sits around whining at Intel. Truly pathetic.

More bad news for AMD

CHIPZILLA is opening a $3 billion factory in Arizona which will churn out the new 45 nanometre chips by Christmas.

Intel and rivals AMD currently make their most advanced chips on 65-nanometre technology, and both companies are spending heavily to outfit their factories with the cutting-edge equipment and technologies needed to make 45-nanometre chips.

However it looks like Intel is at least six months ahead of AMD as it has opened the new million-square-foot factory, with more than 1,000 workers.

According to AP the plant will have chips out in November.

Intel wants to spend up to $8 billion on upgrading or building factories for 45-nanometre chips.

That figure includes the Arizona factory, up to $3.5 billion for a new factory in Kiryat Gat, Israel and $1.5 billion to retool an existing facility in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, both of which are to open next year.

HAPPY Birthday to DAMMIT!

Yes, as Sparks pointed out over on a real blog today is the 1 year anniversary of the shotgun marriage from hell known as DAMMIT.

I find it kind of interesting that shariKKKou couldn't be bothered to post anything on this auspicious day. Maybe he's too busy blaming Intel for all of his problems in life and is afraid that AMD's Halloween is going to be a trick not a treat.

Anyway, since Hector made his brilliant move to pay way too much for ATI and then intentionally drive out all the competent people in order to replace them with his cronies from Motorola who were all unemployed after driving that company into the ground, the new DAMMIT has managed to lose a cool $1.8 BILLION.
But it doesn't end there! Those are only operating losses, the overall net worth of both companies was $21 Billion last year, now it's down to a cool $7 Billion.... Talk about Progress!!

I think I finally understand what Abinnazi, ShariKKKou, and one_goatfucker go on about when they discuss "asset light"... it means:
1. Hector pisses away all of AMD's assets, and
2. Hector runs up a mountain of debt while cutting himself and his Motorola pals fat checks from AMD's carcass...

Hey Abinstein & Pezal, here is what an actually rational AMD guy who (unlike you idiots) wants AMD to succeed had to say:

I'll make it brief. (Wasting time on idiots is not my favorite past-time)
I've been a member of AMDZone since July 1999. By reading your post, one can only assume that you were still wetting your diapers back then.
Thus far I've directly and/or indirectly (Read: my previous/current employers) bought ~400 Athlon XP/MP CPUs and anywhere between 150-300 Opteron CPUs. (Educated guess)

I (and my close family) personally owned:
- 1 AMD K5 machine.
- 2 AMD K6 machines.
- 1 AMD Athlon SlotA machine.
- 4 Athlon XP/Duron machines.
- 3 dual Athlon MP (2 used modified XPs) machines.
- 1 Athlon64/s754 machine.
- 1 Athlon64/s939 machine.
- 1 Athlon64X2/s939 machine.
- 1 Athlon64X2/AM2 machine.
- 2 dual Opteron/s940 machines.

In my house, I currently have:
- 2 Dual Opteron machines (248, 270).
- 1 Athlon64 (754) machine.
- 2 AthlonXP machines.
- 1 Athlon SlotA machine.
- 1 AMD K6 machine.

Have you bothered to use this site's search buttons, or God forbids, use Google [1] before going on a rampage, you would have known how ludicrous your accusations are.
However, using the search options is what grown-ups do. 5 years olds just throw the term FUD every 3 or 4 sentences and call it the day.

As for answering your/Moli question - have you bothered to follow my link you would have seen that Intel has Linux certified servers on its own.
... But that was far to complicated for you, right?

Seriously, are you for real?

Gilboa from AMDzone

I think abinstein just likes arguing with people. He's arguing and attacking other AMD supporters now? That's just low.

and for pezal. Couldn't you find even a modicum of pro AMD news today?

"For once I totally agree with Abinstein :-)"

You are cutting a sentence out of my paragraph. Don't leave out the "fight with dogs" part.

" Abinstein attacking someone worried about losing his job."

You are just a FUDer as always - and why am I not surprised that Intel supporters also consistently show lack of reading skill and ability to make FUDs?

There is no reason nor prospect for anyone there to lose his job, and thus I certainly did not "attack" anything - go read the link and you see nowhere near the attacking or insulting quality any one of you attain in the comments here.

I only argue against nonsense. I have no motivation or hidden agenda like you apparently do, and I do not take side of fanboism.

But of course that might be something that you cannot comprehend. In that case I feel sorry for you, too (and hopefully you'll also agree?)

Are you surprised by that? I Googled what you typed and there are tons of articles on the net about that... so yes, it IS news (technically) but is it really that surprising?

As for me, I'll stick with Linux for now.

What he says is flawed. How many AMD systems he owns or operates has nothing to do with how accurate his claims are. I (and others) pointed out a few obvious inaccuracies, which he didn't fully respond but sadly focused on the part that I call him "cover busted."

Anyway, what happens there also has nothing to do with what I observed, that Intel fans consistently show insulting & attacking personalities everywhere. Many of you also need to improve your reading and logic reasoning skills, IMHO.

the reason why intel fanbois make personal insult towards other bcoz they are in an emotional unstable state. during this stage their brain refuse to transmit signal throughout the body. the indication will shown as a spastic behavoiur which last for several miliseconds to several days depend on the severity. another indication are enormous physical growth becoz of tyroid gland failure which release excessive amounts of iodine into the bloodstream. although their physical size is huge, their intelligence is no more higher than average human knees. the symptoms is found that they are aroused by the blue circle around a few letters at their pc casing. and at the same time they experience illusional effect by alternate overlapping of green colours onto the image. the efects is a brain fatigue among intel fanbois which result failure use of their own brain in ethical manners.

Right? .. dont forget that that "right aka x86" was patented BY Intel .. Intel owns it .. AMD is just leasing it .... (sort of) until they go KABOOM!!!

I understand your point, but most of other Intel fanatics seem to be putting too much value into this "Intel owns x86" point of view!!

Don't forget that Intel... that's right INTEL signed the little dotted line when IBM requested them to.

If it wouldn't have been for IBM's license request, or Intel would not have signed the license agreement, then there would be no Intel today!

What I don't understand is why most of you can't put as much value into THAT part of history? Why you keep coming up with the excuse that AMD copied and they are only copiers, etc, etc.

If I give you $5 Million to 'borrow' the house you design and built for 25 years, I wouldn't expect to see you, your supporters and half your family standing on my street with signs and chants about how 'I didn't build it' so I don't deserve to be there!

Besides Intel has barely contributed any 'original' technology to x86 since they signed the deal with AMD. Most of it is either legally licensed from a third party, given to them on a silver platter (like how they swallowed Alpha) or in most cases outright stolen from their competitors. Due to their size they know they can get away with it.

How many times have you seen a headline entitled:

"Intel pays $X00 million to settle patent case against XYZ Corp."

The only reason Intel has paid is because they know they are going to loose and the only reason XYZ accepted is because they were painted into a wall.

Intel Opens First High-Volume 45nm Microprocessor Manufacturing Factory
New $3 Billion Facility to Produce Processors with Intel 45nm Hafnium-based High-k Metal Gate Transistors

CHANDLER, Ariz., Oct. 25, 2007 – Production of a new generation of microprocessors for PCs, laptops, servers and other computing devices officially began today inside of Intel Corporation's first high-volume 45 nanometer (nm) manufacturing factory in Chandler, Ariz.

Called "Fab 32," the $3 billion factory will use Intel's innovative 45nm process technology based on Intel's breakthrough in "reinventing" certain areas of the transistors inside its processors to reduce energy leakage. The 45nm transistors use a Hafnium-based high-k material for the gate dielectric and metal materials for the gate, and are so small that more than 2 million can fit on the period at the end of this sentence. Millions of these tiny transistors will make up Intel's faster, more energy efficient lead- and halogen-free processors for PCs, laptops and servers, as well as ultra low-power processors for mobile Internet and consumer electronic devices, and low-cost PCs. The first of the company's 45nm processors is scheduled to be introduced on Nov. 12.

"The opening of Fab 32 in Arizona today is a testament to Intel's continued investment in our most strategic asset -- the most advanced, environmentally friendly manufacturing network in the world," said Paul Otellini, Intel president and CEO. "The magic of 45nm and our new transistor design allow us to deliver high-performance, energy-efficient processors to our customers across the entire spectrum of market segments, from the most powerful servers to a variety of mobile devices and everything in between."

Fab 32 is Intel's sixth 300mm wafer factory and its second factory to produce 45nm chips. Intel first produced 45nm processors in its Oregon development facility, called D1D, in January and is now moving into high-volume production with the opening of Fab 32. Two additional 45nm, 300mm manufacturing factories are scheduled to open next year in Kiryat Gat, Israel (Fab 28) and Rio Rancho, N.M. (Fab 11x). Using 300mm wafers lowers the production cost per chip while diminishing overall use of resources.

With 184,000 square feet of clean room space, the completed Fab 32 structure measures 1 million square feet, so large that more than 17 U.S. football fields could fit inside the building. More than 1,000 employees will operate the factory in such positions as process, automation and yield engineers and senior manufacturing technicians.

A Focus on the Environment – From the Factory Down to the Transistor
Fab 32 will be among Intel's most environmentally friendly factories, incorporating a number of energy and water conservation measures that have come to characterize Intel's long track record of environmental stewardship in its operations.

Intel's industry-leading 45nm process results in a 15 percent reduction in global warming emissions, and Fab 32 makes use of Intel Arizona's innovative water conservation and reuse program which conserves more than 70 percent of the water.

The company also announced that it intends to seek certification for the new fab as the company's first official Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) factory based on new criteria being developed for facilities of this kind. LEED is a green building rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council that provides a set of standards for environmentally sustainable construction and requires several months of operating data before certification can be completed. The certification would demonstrate that Fab 32 meets the highest environmental standards and reflects Intel's history of commitment to environmental leadership.

Only Intel is delivering next generation 45nm CPUs in less than three weeks with revolutionary new transistor technology that is produced all right here in the USA.

BUY Intel hi performance, energy saving, low cost, state of the art 45nm HK/MG, made right here in the USA, cpus, platforms, and video solutions.

You think someone can steal my identity with my address?

No. But posting you address on the Internet is still a pretty silly thing to do.

Maybe you don't value your anonymity on the Internet, but some of us do.

If anyone thinks that the tripe I post here (i.e. the direct opposite of Sharikou, Oneexpert etc.) is representative of who I am in real life I'd be really worried.

The only reason Intel has paid is because they know they are going to loose and the only reason XYZ accepted is because they were painted into a wall.

That's funny. I seem to recall AMD being sued by SGI, Opti Inc and MicroUnity for patent infringement.

AMD is irellivant now. They've proven that they can't keep up with Intel. AMD's new architecture is slower than Intel's existing architecture. That's AMD 'progress' for you. More AMD progress is Ruiz wiping off $14Bn of shareholder value in one year! A year ago DAAMIT was worth $21bn. Now they're worth a mere third of that, or $7bn.

Thanks to Ruiz's incompetent management, over the last four quarters AMD has lost in excess of $2bn. During that same time Intel has raked in $6.4bn in profit even while spending billions on the new 45nm fabs.

According to 'reliable sources' AMD will BK by Q4'07. Oops I mean Q2'08. Scratch that, AMD BK by Q1'09! Ah, the hell with it. AMD BK by Q1'2109! Now I've got another 100 years to come up with BK predictions. That should do for now.
