AMD drops prices on desktop CPUs

The 2.8GHZ Athlon X2 5600+ costs only $146 -- it's pretty much identical to FX62.

Intel CTO is proud of double cheeseburger design -- packing two double cores on FSB and you get a Naive Quad core.

No one is buying AMD Garbage. AMD has no choice but to hold a Garage sale.

They keep lowering prices but no one wants dead end of the road technology.

AMD is done, even if they price the chips at $20, no one would want them.

Remember, when something becomes obsolete, it holds 0 value....soon, AMD will have to destroy all the chips because they can't sell them and they can't even give them away.

AMD & Others Form SOI Consortium

Matthew Cameron on Monday, October 08, 2007 - 01:13 PM
AMD Advanced Micro Devices has long been an advocate of Silicon on Insulator technology. AMD has been using this manufacturing strategy since 2001.

According to EE Times, AMD, along with TSMC, UMC, IBM, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing and others, have formed the SOI Industry Consortium.

One of the goals of this consortium is the need to reduce power consumption.

In the past, Intel(copytel) has claimed that SOI is too expensive.

AMD spends the extra money for SOI to bring all its customers the best product possible.

IF your not running SOI technology your just not state of the art.

BUY AMD hi performance, energy saving, low cost, state of the art, cpus, platforms, and video solutions.

AMD TRIPLE CRIPPLE TALIBAN DETAILS:

http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/AMD_Triple-Core_Is_Phenom_7-Series/5327.html

AMD plans to launch the new Triple-Core processor family by Q1 next year and it will be called Phenom 7-series instead. The codename for the Triple-core processors is Toliman, a 65nm quad-core Agena core based with one core disabled. VR-Zone has learned that there will be 2 models at launch; Phenom 7700 and 7600 clocked at 2.5GHz and 2.3GHz respectively. Both processors will be AM2+ based, 3 x 512LB of L2 cache, 2MB of shared L3 cache and has TDP of 89W. We can expect DVT samples to be available by January, production by February and launch by March 2008

2.5Ghz Tri Core? That's pathetic. BaronMatrix previously predicted a speed of 3.4Ghz for Tri core CPU.

Apparently 2.5Ghz is the 'higher frequency' that comes from a tri core over a quad core CPU. We now know that AMD will not exceed 2.5Ghz quad core for desktops.

Forget this upcoming junk. If someone wants a good multicore CPU go grab a Q6600 for $277.99 and be done with it.

But then again, since the intelligence level that oneexpert manages with is only able to keep his heart beating and his lungs breathing, we really shouldn't expect much.

AMD CRUSHING intel(copytel) AGAIN...

AMD adjusts Athlon prices

By Tony Smith
9th October 2007 09:24 GMT

AMD has juggled the prices of its desktop processors, knocking up to 27.5 per cent of various CPUs, introducing some new, low-power ones, and upping what it charges for a number of other parts.

Among the processors that are now cheaper than before are members of the dual-core Athlon 64 X2 line and the single-core Athlon 64 series. Dual-core prices fell by between 6.2 per cent and 12.4 per cent, while the single-core cuts ranged from 22.4 per cent to 27.5 per cent.

New to AMD's X2 price list are the 'Black Edition' 6400+ and 5000+, the latter a new, $136 part while the former replaced the existing vanilla 6400+. The 4000+ was dropped from the list. So too was the Athlon 64 3200+, but its fellows were joined by the new 2.2GHz LE-1600 and the 2.4GHz LE-1620. Both are 45W parts priced at $47 and $53, respectively.

The 45W Energy Efficient Athlon X2 series gained a new member, the 2.3GHz BE-2400, while the existing members - the 2.1GHz BE-2350 and the 1.9GHz BE-2300 - now cost around six per cent more than before.
And there's a new mobile-oriented Athlon X2: the 1.8GHz TK-55. It's priced at $144, the same as the existing 1.7GHz TK-53.

The former top-of-the-range desktop Sempron, the 2GHz LE-1150, now sits under the 2.2GHz LE-1250 and the 2.1GHz LE-1200, priced at $53 and $48, respectively. The LE-1150's price went up, from $37 to $42, its former price point being taken up by the new 1.9GHz LE-1100.

The new low wattage cpus along with the cpu price cuts have caused intel(copytel) stock to plummet like a rock.
It wont be long before intel(copytel) tanks.
Nobody wants or needs obsolete power sucking glued up pentium 3s on a relic antique FSB.
Dont wait for the nehalem knock off, buy the original and still the best AMD BARCELONA.

BUY AMD state of the art, power saving, low cost, best performance, most often copied, cpus, platforms, and video solutions.

Nice going for AMD, they finally got from Powerpoint to real world. Though they are still short of 100MHz from their "estimated performance" they saw months ago. Anyone has made a comparison against those?

I remember many people claiming they estimated the performance by simply doubling dualcore K8 performance since that was the only thing they could use to protect AMD ">40% more performance in wide variety of workloads compared to Intel". Seems to me that that they didn't use K8 to estimate it afterall. Though it makes one wonder what they did use for the estimation.

Seeing total assclowns like yourself supporting people like Sharidouche only make me more happy in the choices I made in life such as not sleeping with my mother, leaving the house at 19, getting a college education, having a decent job and of course being married to a wonderful Wife.

Now I know its hard for you to understand, as you will never have any of these things due to either the plate in your head or the undecended testicles, but fear not, you too can have a mostly complete life cleaning tables at McDonalds or mopping the floors at Home Depot. The world does need some morons.

As to your assumption that surfing the 'net is legal as long as it doesn't impact your job, maybe if the company doesn't have a defined Internet usage policy, which this company probably did not. Most city governments have very strict usage policies, and if you break that policy, you *can* be terminated. Since NY is an "at-will" employment state, if you violate a company's 'net use policy, you can be terminated, without a cause for recourse. My guess is, in the case you keep citing, the company did not have a clearly defined policy, so he was able to win the case. I'm not going to look it up, I have better things to do. Litigation like that is what clogs up our court systems, and the guy is douche regardless, so he deserved to get canned.

And I agree with above - with writing skills like that, I think both Broadway and Hollywood are safe for a good long time.

You mean: you were an SDET?

You were not an SDE?

That explains quite a lot!

Are you sure you 'quit' and weren't 'let go'?"

You did not get any 'above entry-level position'. As an tester you were pretty much scraping the bottom of the barrel! You know that what matters at Microsoft are SDEs and not SDETs where T (Test) means you can't program real products.

SDEs get calls at 3AM in Windows. I didn't want that. They have to wear pagers all the time in case they break the build. Not for me.

I have created products for the web. That's still developing.

I also did an automation harness that employed an XML-based scripting language I created.

That's developing too.

And as usual you throw in a low blow. I can do that too.

Then I guess your food-service working pathetic ass really doesn't mean anything.

SDETs now are not what they were. Most of the qualified testers were given SDET status. I was glad to leave the warm-bodies and good-ole-boy network. Wouldn't go back. Not even if it stopped raining all year.

And of course, you have to trow in a barb about being fired. Verminous at best, primordial at worst.

Just leave people's employment out of it and you won't have to worry about what I say about my job, former and current.

When you're not qualified for a job, it's usually best not to apply for it, so in that case I can understand why you *didn't* apply for it, congratulations on showing a momentary sense of judgement.

Given that you don't know me, what I do, or what my career is, then you can have no clue as to if I'm proud of what I do or not. As it is I am very proud of what I do, I do it on my own schedule, and make a very nice wage doing it, substantially more than you do, from what you've alluded to regarding your salary.

Assume what you want, regarding my career, I honestly don't give a rat fuck...When you're at the point in your career where you don't have to make client calls, client's call on you based on your reputation, come talk to me, until then, think whatever you want.

And again, as I have repeatedly stated, I hope AMD's new stuff is competetive - it better be - however given their track record as of the last 18 months, I take the wait and see attitude. delivering? What the hell does that mean? If it means have the faster chip then Intel should have already gone out of business as AMD was leading for 3 years.

1. Being a janitor

2. Having no job

3. Being fired from a job

you have to deal with the repercussions of such.

AMD should take their time. The Phenom is set to debut in November or one month after the original date.

Just like it took nVidia MONTHS to get stable DX10 drivers, it took ATi awhile but since they'r owned by AMD they're the anti-christ right?

Just like Intel's 65nm process started with space-heaters, AMD can take some months to get K10 shaped up.

Just like Intel had to respin C2D last year, AMD had to respin K10. It wouldn't have been noticed had they had more Fabs.

No, ATI became the bottom feeders when they released the utterly shitty 2900 series of cards, that the fanbois on this very blog were calling the next coming of Christ.

Then of course they totally forgot that:

1.) Nvidia's cards, both the middle of the line, and top of the line beat the 2900XT silly in almost every category, and in most cases by a HUGE margin.

2.) The ATI/AMD card sucks down power like a 2 dollar whore. Now mind you these are the same people harping on the fact that an Intel Processor uses 10 more watts than the AMD processor when idle and much less power when under any type of load.

3.) The AMD fanbois seem to realize that Intel is NOT sitting still in the CPU market. the C2D, like it or not, is still superior to AMD's K10 line up, now and for the foreseeable future. Its going to get MUCH worse for AMD when Intel releases its upcoming processor lineup starting in November.

4.) the AMD fanbois seem to realize that Intel can easily support a pricing war, AMD cannot. AMD fanbois de-ride Intel for lowering prices yet cheer when AMD does the same thing.

5.) Sharidouche lies about his PhD, makes up phony news about Intel, or rather takes AMD news, cuts and pastes any real information into the trash to try his best to mark the article/review to look pro-AMD and negative-Intel.

Agreed. Quad FX was the supreme joke of 2006. AMD haven't talked it up now for months, indicating that they have acknowledged its failure in the marketplace and will not be positioning it any longer as the top end enthusiast solution.

It was touted as the ultimate gaming platform. Yet months before its launch, anyone with a shred of common sense and logic not swayed by Henri's marketing hype easily understood that it would be an utter flop. A dual socket server board bastardized to work with four graphics cards sounds cool, until you realize that:
- The brains of the whole deal are obsolete K8 processors.

- You would need a massive power supply, at least 800 W, and cooling requirements. This was obvious way before the launch.

- No gamer in their right mind would buy four graphics cards when the next nVidia or ATI product cycle would allow you to typically buy two cards that outperform the original four, for far less cost and power consumption.

I sincerely pity those who bought into the hype. It's not their fault, it's AMD's for knowingly misleading them, just like they did with R600 ("We don't do paper launches") and K10 ("40% faster than Clovertown across a wide variety of workloads"). Quad FX was purely a desperation move.

Similarly, these people are in for a rude awakening when Phenom launches and can't even match Kentsfield in IPC, let alone Yorkfield. Again, they simply chose to ignore the obvious, that Barcelona = Phenom, and the benchmarks are already out. Stepping changes will not significantly improve performance, never have.

CPU prices affect more than just AMD and Intel. I like having a CPU that I can afford that does what I want.

I don't want a massive drop-off because I feel better knowing there are CPUs out of my desired price range.

It's kind of like Cadillac dropping the price of the CTS to Hyundai levels. It would be great for some but not the auto industry as a whole.

Actually, when the board got a BIOS fix the idle power fell tremendously and it was not touted as the Ultimate Gamer's platform but the ultimate multitasking platform.

You couldn't see it until you starting encoding while playing a game or running two instances of WoW while having a virus scan going.

The only real issue was having one board. Since 790FX will support QFX, I guess we may see some 8core Phenom boards soon enough.

As you might expect, the GeForce 8800 GTS and the Radeon HD 2900 XT duke it out for the high-end title, but when it comes to high resolutions and detail settings, the Radeon seems to spend most its time below the framerate even of the 320MB GTS variant, which is a rather poor show.

Obviously there's no competition for Nvidia at the high-end, and speeds are significantly higher, with average framerates in the low-hundreds.

The EU accused Intel(copytel) in July of using bribes, rebates, and pricing wars to drive AMD from the market. Fines from the charges could potentially run as high as $3.2 billion, and the Commission recently upheld a $613 million fine against Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) for anticompetitive moves.

Of course, Intel has not even been found guilty of anything yet. Even if Intel was fined, the fine would not be anywhere near $3.2bn. Microsoft could have been fined some $4bn (The maximum the EU fines is 10% of annual revenue).

As I recall, AMD is being used by SGI, Opti Inc and Microunity for patent violation.

Yep you are no comedian....apparently you are no writer, microsoft employee or whatever your delusions of today are either.

I actually took some of the material I was talking about and stuck a CPU in it. Shook it around. Tried to build up static charge and it didn't work.

You got too much time on your hands i guess the office you work at didnt need sweeping that day...

It just wasn't styrofoam. But leave it to you to bring up something that got explained a year ago.

You tried to change your explanation after everyone laughed their asses off at you. Leave it to an amd fanboi to spin the truth just like the company they support.

Since you know about it read the whole thread. It was just a bunch of jerks trying to have their CPU-LOVE-IN just like here.

This i have no answer to since i have no clue what the hell you are talking about...sounds like the rantings of an imbecile to me.

I actually hate talking to you but I love playing with your head.

Considering we have never talked before since this is the first time i ever replied to your nonsense you cant hate me that much nor were you ever playing with my head which leads me to believe you have some serious mental problems.

Tick(Yonah), Tock(Merom), Tick(Penrym), Tock( Nehalem) Time has running out as AMD goes BK.

AMD like clock work marches closer and closer to BK. here they are losing money, and what do they do? Drop the price so they can lose even more money. Why aren't they rasing prices to try and make money? Because their product portfolio sucks and can't command a price that they can make any profit. But what about Barcelona? Yes Barcelona, slow, big, low yielding and selling for what a few hundred bucks. Remember AMD barely made a profit when they were selling Opetron and raping AMD fanbois with 1000 dollar CPUs. Barcelona is soo bad they can't even sell that crap for more then a few hunrded bucks. Whats worst is yield is so low they are getting fewer die and lower revenue per every 65nm then selling Opetrons for 50 bucks.

AMD going BK, Tick Tock Tick Tock.. bye bye Hector. You can bid to cut my lawn but with references like ATI purchase, Barcelona execution I might not even trust you near my lawn.

INTEL will be annoucing billion dollar profits next week and AMD will follow with multi-hundred million dollar loss. That is what you get for having i idiots running a company producing inferior products, using inferior technology and getting lower yields at higher cost.

Now its booty time

While he noted that AMD was "likely less positioned than Intel in addressing a relatively stronger notebook market in [the third quarter]," he said the company got a boost from strong demand for low-end notebooks and its new partnership with Toshiba.
Doug Freedman of American Technology Research said in a research note this week that "AMD's existing product portfolio was uncompetitive in most segments of the market."
But he also said AMD management is "beginning to open its ears up to critics that are pushing the company to become more active consider strategic alternatives."
There has been considerable skepticism about AMD's prospects against Intel in the coming quarters as Richard Schafer of CIBC World Markets said in a note in July.
While its new partnerships with Dell and Toshiba "will likely be a tailwind for AMD over the next few quarters," he wrote, "AMD remains backed into a corner."

Yo Hector you can bid on mowing my lawn or cleaning my swimming pool. But you must keep a better schedule then what you did with Barcelona. Also you must use the latest and greatest technology and not push mower or a bucket

Intel BEGGING FOR More Time To Respond To EU Antitrust Claims, Charges & FINES
Tuesday October 09, 2007 07:21:38 EDT

October 9, 2007 (FinancialWire) Chip maker Intel(copytel) (NASDAQ: INTC) has requested more time to respond to accusations by the European Commission that the company is trying to use its leverage to squeeze rival Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) out of the market.

The EU accused Intel in July of using bribes, rebates, and pricing wars to drive AMD from the market. Fines from the charges could potentially run as high as $3.2 billion, and the Commission recently upheld a $613 million fine against Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) for anticompetitive moves.

Intel(copytel) chips are used in about 8% of personal computers sold worldwide.
Intel(copytel) is struggling to keep market share against superior AMD products which intel(copytel) is about to knock off to try and save there ailing company.
Every chip intel(copytel) now sells is obsoleted by the nehalem barcelona knock off planned soon.

You dont have to wait for the best technology, you can buy AMD now with future proof design.
AMD designs are so good intel is going to copy it.
Don't buy copy-cat technology, buy the ORIGINAL and BEST.... AMD.

BUY FROM THE TECHNICAL LEADER....AMD

BUY AMD hi performance, energy saving, low cost, most copied, cpus, platforms, and video solutions.

AMD screwing over the channel again:

"Their management has no answers for the channel as to 'Where is this product?' Their response, instead of the truth, is silence. It's difficult getting no feedback from AMD, when a year ago Hector Ruiz said we will never turn our back on the channel. And now it looks like AMD has fallen into the same pattern, taking care of their Tier 1's and some favored partners, and turning their back on the channel," he said.

You're the ones who anonymously call names and besmirch character. That's really gay.

And yes I did say that prices are f'd right now. Intel has still yet to have any YoY growth for 2007. That may be why they are laying people off; they can't make as much money so they have to cut costs.

Prices shouldn't be too high or too low. The former pricing scheme still enabled everyone to get a PC. This new one is just designed to make it difficult for AMD to enter into quad core.

Just because you blindly follow someone to odoriferousness and pestilence doesn't mean anything.

The reason why our beloved Christian is complaining, is that he thinks Intel priced their CPU too low, and its hurting AMD. First he argued Intel has predatory pricing, which was proven false. Then he yapped about aggressive pricing, which is also not true.

Baron, no one, but you, wants to see 500USD mid range CPUs, and 300USD low range CPUs. No one, but YOU, complained about the low price.

If you're really into overpriced CPUs, why don't you buy a pair of FX-74s? I thought you yapped about it since last Christmas, why haven't you bought it?

Q2 2007

Second-quarter gross margin was 46.9 percent, lower than the midpoint of the previous expectation. Microprocessor margins were as expected with higher unit shipments offset by lower average selling prices (ASPs). Demand for NOR flash products was lower than expected, resulting in impacts that lowered Intel's gross margin by one point.
* Total microprocessor units were higher sequentially; the ASP was lower.
* Chipset units set a record during the quarter.
* Flash memory units were higher sequentially while motherboard units were lower.

Q2 2006

Intel Corporation today announced second-quarter revenue of $8 billion, operating income of $1.1 billion, net income of $885 million and earnings per share (EPS) of 15 cents. Excluding the effects of share-based compensation, the company posted operating income of $1.4 billion, net income of $1.1 billion and EPS of 19 cents.

$8B 2006
$8.7B 2007

That's barely normal growth. Operating income actually went down from 1.4B to 1.3B. The other amounts come from layoffs and cost restructuring. Q1 07 was even worse as they were -44%. No matter what you say, this crazed pricing scheme is affecting Intel also.

I didn't wish it on them.

In summary: Intel's Q2 results showed modest growth YoY in revenue and a large increase in profit.

Meanwhile AMD and Ati combined Q2 revenue was down ~30% and profits were down 700% YoY.

Delaying all K10 products for so long did serious harm to AMD's ASP. Hector Ruiz's retarded 'we must gain market share at all costs' campaign doesn't seem to have helped much at all.

On graphics the many repeated R6x delays hurt too.

Even worse, when K10 Barcelona and R600 finally showed up the performance was mediocre compared to the competition.

The losses aren't over for AMD. Not by a long shot. They'll need to secure more cash by the end of the year either by more loans and debts or by sell some substantial assets.

As the smaller company AMD is taking a larger hit, but they id regain a large % of the share lost in Q1.

Barcelona is basically available to whoever wants it. Brisbane is hitting 2.9GHz @ 65W. Turion is at 2.3GHz. If they can up Griffin to 2.8 in the 35-45W envelope that will make for a pretty good gaming machine.

Selling chips is the issue not being the fastest all the time.

Actually, making money is the issue. AMD isn't selling enough chips at a high enough price to successfully amortize their massive sunk costs in K9 (scrapped twice) and K10.

AMD need to get their ASPs up, not drive them even further down. Trying to restart the price war with Intel is insane; Intel can afford lower ASPs. AMD can't.
