Expect AMD+ATI and AMD-DELL announcement at the same time

AMD must provide one stop solution under one vendor to support the commercial client market, CPU+Chipset+GPU+MB. That's why AMD needs ATI.

Once AMD has the whole package inhouse, DELL can eventually go 100% AMD: from notebook to 32 way server.

Right now, Intel owns the commercial space because it can provide all these things by itself. AMD is working with Nvidia on stable platforms, but that is still a multi-vendor solution.

AMD told us that 2006 is the year that it will break into the commercial client market in a big way.

Expect AMD+ATI and AMD-DELL announcement to happen at roughly the same time -- which also coincides with Conroe launch.

How long brfore we can actually see AMD producing ATI GPU's, Chipsets, and motherboards in house?

From what you have posted it would seem to be relatively soon. I am sure you are being biassed and very optomistic.

Have you factored in the market share that Intel is going to gain back with its core architecture?

What about the fact that AMD only has one 300mm FAB, and the other wont be converted to 300mm until middle of next year?

What about the fact that the New York fab won't be producing anything until 2010?

Thats alot of time for Intel...

1. They might decide to cozy up to Nvidia.

2. Create there own GPU that could compete with ATI, they are coming out with a new chip that supports SM 4 and DX10, and will be Vista capable.

3. Given they have the fabs in place why not offer Nvidia the ability to manufacture there graphics chips for them?

Just a few thought's, but it will be a while before AMD offers a whole package, and to supply all of Dells needs.

Remember? AMD just ran out of competitive products. LMAO!

What would stop Intel from announcing their own bid for ATI at the same time? They work much closer to ATI than AMD does, they already do a lower end graphics chip and of course to be a thorn in AMD's side to cost them more cash they don't have and if Intel were to buy them, they could digest ATI Much easier. I don't think Intel needs ATI, but again, to disrupt AMD - the two companies act like SPY VS SPY most of the time anyways.

No one will care about that. Intel platforms are more reliable (Ati SB450 Southbridge issues anyone!?), the new Core 2 CPUs are much faster than AMD's old scrap heap 90nm junk. It's as I predicted: AMD's stock has crashed from $40, it is now valued at less than half that. AMD will be posting even worse revenue and profit figures each quater from here on out. Intel will have quad core desktop and server CPUs ready before the end of the year, at least 6 months before AMD.

AMD will be dead within two years.

I'd say Sharikou got fired for system abuse and dissing the same company he worked at.. You know what that means.. And he was fired by the contract agency that had him work at Intel..

One more thing, he is unemployed since 2005.

Now, you have been ratted out homeboy! What do you have to say?

I really don't get it why you are so extreme with your comments.
It would be great if DELL decide to put Athlons and Turions to every PC model, but why 100%? It is all about choice. I want to choose AMD or choose Intel same as a choose hardrive and video card. You want to change one monopoly to another one.

Damn you people take Sharikou way too serious sometimes.

He posts blogs that are humerous, others are satirical. (Do you know what this word means?)

Fair enough if you don't agree with this guy but come on, they're only predictions, sometimes funny, sometimes serious. Either way he's on the ball most of the time.

Fanboi or not, I like his style too.

What happened to AMD being the company of collaboration and working with other companies to provide solutions.

It would seem the acquisition of ATI would signal a shift away from that and into the "we want to provide a platform" approach that most of the AMD fans rail on Intel for.

After sitting in a meeting with Michael Dell last week and seeing his joy over the new Conroe systems it would be very hard for him to announce a 100% AMD deal today... As for your other comments, it is obvious you are not a PH.D. and you have no issue about lying.

I hear by the end of 2007, Apple is converting all their machines to AMD-ATI as well. Steve Jobs decided to switch as soon as heard Dell was going 100% AMD.

Same with HP! No more Intel!

The strangest rumor is that Sun is dropping AMD and moving to Intel. Evidently the Opteron is too fast and no one is buying SPARC anymore. So Sun decided to get rid of AMD.

ACTUALLY I BELEIVE AMD WOULD MAKE MORE LOGICAL SENSE TO PURCHASE NVIDIA SINCE IT PRODUCES WORKSTATION SLI CHIPSETS FOR ITS FLAGSHIP PROCESSORS, PLUS OWN A BUNCH OF PATENTS IN TERM OF SLI (SCALABLE LINK INTERFACE)FROM NVIDIA'S VOODOO PURCHASE.

HOWEVER, AMD MIGHT WANT TO BE LEGALLY RUN INTEL'S PATENT USING ATI'S PRIOR CROSS LICENCE AGREEMENT THAT ATI HAD SECURED FROM INTEL.

ANYWAY, THIS IS GOING TO BURN UP A LOT OF CASH FOR AMD, MORGAN STANLEY'S LOAN SHOULD BE EXPECTED TO BE AROUND 13% INTEREST ANNUAL RATE.

I HOPED THAT AMD SOLD A LOT OF STOCKS AT MUCH EARLIER TIME WHEN IT WAS ABOVE $30, BECAUSE IF IT IS DOING IT AS OF TODAY 7/24/2006, ITS STOCK PRICE IS GOING DOWN WITH SUCH HIGH IMPACT NEGATIVE CASHFLOW.

By that theory Intel wasn't going to be used by Dell the last 3 years. Just because you don't have the elite high end stuff doesn't mean Dell will use you, otherwise Dell would have been using AMD for the last 3+ years. Dell will probably get cozy with AMD just because they have the MUCH BETTER low to mid range units. Dell will be using AMD CPUs, probably not exclusively like Sharikou believes, but AMD will get BIG props when that happens, and AMD stock will be back up to $40+ faster than Intel can say "Not Guilty".

If you watch the stock market you’ll notice the tech industry is severely down. The company’s that shine are those that are quickest to market with solutions. AMD / ATI will be the quintessential solutions company. Dell’s model can leverage quick to market solutions to fill needs. I think Dr. S. on target.

"The spotlight will likely be on the technology group after Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD.N: Quote, Profile, Research), the No. 2 supplier of computer processors, said on Monday it would acquire Canada's graphics chip maker ATI Technologies for $5.4 billion in cash and stock."

"AMD will acquire all of the outstanding common shares of ATI for $4.2 billion in cash and 57 million shares of AMD common stock, based on the number of shares of ATI common stock outstanding on July 21."

~~~
Why would AMD buy ATI? ATI make GPUs for the XBOX 360 and the Wii. But neither Microsoft nor Nintendo needed to buy ATI.
If AMD wants a Torrenza GPU, they just have to sign a contract with ATI, nVidia, VIA or SIS. If AMD want a chipset, they just have to do the same thing. This way AMD will not alienate Nvidia nor everybody else.
And if AMD buy ATI they will not have the cash to build the New York FAB and rebuild their FAB 30...
One day INTEL will enter in competition with nVidia and ATI with a powerful GPU. While waiting for this day, AMD has only to maintain a good relationship with both ATI and nVidia.
AMD just have to be patient...
And if AMD really want to buy ATI, why not wait until AMD regain the performance crown in 2Q07~1Q08?
Why would AMD want Nvidia for the server market? AMD only wants ATI for the desktop/mobile market. Since AMD command the server segment and their partners are enjoying their fruits of their labour as well why disruppt that? On the the other hand the desktop/mobile isn't as all they hope. So they gonna attempt to reinvent it.
As I said in the other post, ATI with Torrenza, they gonna go for the ultra compact desktop in a laptop form factor. High power, highly customisible, low power consumption and portible solution that people will expect to see in 3 years time.
In response to the post about the author getting fired... Im sure all but the most faithful AMD fans could sorta figure out that either A) he worked for AMD b) He got fired form INTEL or C) he owns stock in AMD or got burned with some stock from INTEL. But in the end Intel fell behind for some time to a relativly weak competitor. Intel deserves to be embarassed for a while, however Conroe has its issues but its still a slightly better CPU, which isnt all that great seeing as its a 65nm, latest generation processor that can barely pwn a old mature one in most areas.
No no little man, the only losers here are the one's who have to resort to insults and belittlement of a person's personal background(as fabricated as they make it) when they speak thier mind.
When these pathetic individuals have no facts or proof to refute that person's claims or no longer have talking points to crutch on they tend to spew crap out of thier orifices to make themselves feel important or to make them more credible than they really are.
So if the shoe fits...
Seriously, why do you Intel fanboys come here if you really hate the man so much. I'm insanely curious to find out why, or are you people just that sad or what? Did Sharikou molest your moms or something while saying "AMD 0wnZ j00"???
Really it's so hilarious the reactions and responses I read it's even become sad now. Seriously, some of you need to move on, log out of this website and find a new hobby. For your own sake of health.
No, no, you know the Inquirer cannot be trusted, don't you? Even though people I know in Taiwan has already been working on AMD-based OEM boxes for Dell, whatever the Inquirer says got to be false rumors.... especially when those are against their dear Intel...
Sometimes Sharikou does make exaggerated claims. For example, Dell going 100% AMD is just ... not going to happen shortly EVEN AFTER Intel's Chapter 11, IMO. But some of his predictions do have their points - like "Conroe will push Dell closer to AMD," "AMD+ATI will be a killer enterprise," etc.
I'm realy interested to hear from those who used ugly words to insult Sharikou on his claim of closer AMD-DELL relationship. What would they say now? An apology, perhaps?
"On the corporate side, Dell started using processors from Advanced Micro Devices Inc. in its higher-end servers, breaking an exclusive reliance on Intel Corp. chips. The Dell-AMD relationship will expand, Rollins said, though he declined to say exactly how. Intel has new products on the horizon, as well."
Lenovo too will start selling AMD based Thinkcentres (Business Desktop)
"ThinkCentre A60 models offer leading-edge performance so you can do more in less time with true multi-tasking. AMD Athlon 64 X2 processors put the power of dual-core technology on your desktop — delivering performance and increased efficiency. Built to handle multiple programs running simultaneously, dual-core technology means optimized office productivity for your ever-growing application needs"
This news was not taken from the inquirer, but are official press releases!
