Intel follows AMD in Manufacturing Strategy

I predicted long time ago that Intel will always follow AMD. Now it is doing it again. AMD has successfully carried out the asset smart strategy, basically unloading CPU fabrication to another firm. Now, the news is that Intel is following suit. It has shutdown numerous FABs and signed up TSMC for Intel CPU manufacturing.

I predict some day Intel may even use GlobalFoundries for its next generation of copycat chips.

The following is a incomplete list of AMD moves that Intel has tried to copy.

*) x86-64
*) performance per watt concept
*) Multi-core
*) Direct Connect
*) Spinning off NOR flash business
*) Asset smart

This isn't really just a fab outsource, though. That'd be completely misrepresenting what's happening.

Intel is letting TSMC build on Atom's core design to produce custom SoC solutions for volume customers. Intel doesn't do that type of work very well. Why not collect licensing fees and let someone else do it?

Yeah! that's true Intel has always copied AMD in all products to keep pace and alive, but they are doom with I7 Nehalem and Larabee. Nobody wants P3 technology in today new CPU and GPU, only a caveman would want this.
