SUN is forever young!

Jonathan Schwartz has ascended to the CEO post at Sun Microsystems.

SUN is young and kicking. The shift of strategic focus from pure R&D to growth is the right move at the right time. Sun has enough technologies to choke a horse, but it desperately needs to ship products that customers want. AMD's customer-centric innovation doctrine is a good recipe of success to borrow. SUN needs products, discipline and execution.

Grow, baby, grow!

I saw you posted on Jonathan's blog, suggesting ZFS not be made open source. I'm guessing you haven't noticed that it already is ?

FWIW, I think opening Solaris is a really really good thing. (Disclaimer: I work for Sun)

Open sourcing Solaris, IMHO, is like open sourcing Netscape. It gets morphed into FireFox--complete rewrite and rebrand. OpenSolaris is mainly bunch of SUN employees doing the work but have their code for public review. In the end, the open source community will take the ideas from Solaris and create a new OS. There is no ego to be satisfied by being a Solaris 10 hacker.
