Anand's pay day

Today must be Anand's pay day for this benchmark. I think he deserves this. DELL is buying AMD chips in the millions, and Intel is desperately in need of pumping. This is once in a life oppurtunity for review site owners to get rich. Intel now says on their web site that Woodcrest is up to 60% faster than Opteron, that seems to be Anand's MySQL negative scaling result.

Just looking at the above Intel web page, you will have to admit that Intel is lying in broad sun light. Intel is no server leader by any reasonable standard. First, even if its claims on Woodcrest were true, they were only for entry level 2P servers; AMD rules the high end with 4P and 8P Opteron. Second, we already busted AnandTech's bogus benchmarks, and techannel.de and ipcommunications.com were simply repeating Intel's reasults. The independent GamePC benchmark on Apache web server performance show Woodcrest soundly beaten by Opteron.

The Opteron has changed the server landscape. Nowadays, a 4P Opteron server can be built for $5000. This has led to the rapid growth of 4P server market.

INQ reported that a Woodcrest may have suffered BSOD at its own launch demo.

I love how everytime Intel puts "We are better than AMD" on their site, AnandTech is either the first or 2nd. I also love how they choose places that are hardly known and very small reviewers who they can easily pay off to say w/e they want.

Very interesting indeed reading that INQ report...haha Intel fanboys ammuse me.

If you didn't know about CPUs and go to Intel.com, you would think Intel was a small little startup trying to upstage a technology leader. Intel needs small fishes like Anand and whoever to pump its products...

Sharikou,

is AMD too cheap to pay you? Do they get all of this "expert analysis" from you for free?

Wow, talking about a "fanboy".

I gave free advice to Intel too. But they are stupid. Eventually, they chose the strategy I proposed, like establishing a universal pricing scheme. But they made some major irreversible mistake which will result in Intel's demise. The crash of CPU pricing will BK Intel in just a few quarters.

AnandTech is a bunch of shills. What's new?

AnandTech chooses the wrong motherboards, operating systems, MySQL versions, system setup, benchmark setup, etc. All in the name of IntelPayoffInside.

The whoring out of AnandTech is a sign of things to come for many tech blogs. Intel only nows how to game a corrupt system and that is what to expect for the next couple years while they struggle to survive.

I can only hope Anand takes his Intel bribe money and retires like Tom Pabst. Maybe he will move back to India and buy a big hotel and retire from computers.

What pains me is that Intel poisons the well when they corrupt the system. The entire industry suffers because of Intel's Isreali way of doing business.

You have to understand that everything has the instinct to survive one way or the other. Intel got 103,000 people in need of food and housing. Losing revenue means many people will become jobless. Buying off a few review sites is cheap. But I don't think it will have big payoff. It's sad that Intel quoted Anand and some small fish web sites as proof of Woodcrest's supremacy. None of the tier 1 OEMs showed up on stage to hype Woodcrest. Why? Last year before Intel launched Paxville, Michael Dell said a bunch of good stuff, now he is quiet. IBM and HP also danced for Paxville, they are both silent on Woodcrest. Things to come from AMD will be huge and no one wants to alienate AMD.

To me, Intel's policy of buying reviews sites is senseless in Woodcrest/Opteron market. Do you really think people buying 20.000 bucks servers will listen to Anand or Tom's or "put-any-other-name-you-want" review site???
Do you really think Tyan or Supermicro or the like will care about cheap sites reviews?
This Intel's policy may pay in the low end market, where people buy know nothing about CPU's and pcs. In Italy, at least, there's still vendors who claim AMD compatibility issues!!! In 2006!!! Just because they earn more from Intel, till now....

And.. every website that reviewed Conroe/Woody and worldwide ES testers are Intel paid pumpers --> Conclusions of sharikou and mad mod mike.

And do you know that INQ is AMD-biased as well? Only peeps like sharikou will trust their articles (and rumors) 100%....

Get a brain!

The INQ may be AMD fanboy, yes, but how could you trust a company (Intel) that lied so many times?
How could I trust a company that recently have ALWAYS made the wrong decision in term of technical choices (USB instead of Firewire, No IMC, still FSB, Prescott anyone?, BTX, add more if you want).
They said: P4 architecture will reach 10ghz - lie; Prescott will consume less power and will clock much higher than Northwood - lie;
IMC is no need in modern CPU - lie; 64 bit useless out of supercomputer mainframes - lie.
I remember a case where Intel "tweaked" an IDE benchmark so it could shine on Intel's chipset (resulting in 7200 ide disks being two times faster than 10.000 SCSI ones - absolutely ridiculous, as any computer user could easily see).
WHY should I trust blindly this time a company that lied so many times to his own benefit?

Listen? Some yes, some no. I frequently visit those sites just as many others. Don't forget US System Admins who work for corporations do browse around various sites to keep abreast of news. (Well some of us beter ones do.) Some of us take some thing with a grain of salt, others won't.

"Woodcrest is faster then Opteron." So I have been told by someone under a NDA a few weeks ago. They had been testing for some time. Do I believe him? More so then the review sites, but I won't till I get my hands on one to test myself, aka public release.

Guys, Calm down the rhetoric.
The writing is on the wall.
Over 200 OEMs are in the queue for Woodcrest and it is on track to ship historically record quantities by Q4. AMD Fanbois seem to have forgotten that when Intel starts the offensive, its loss- time for AMD.
AMD trying to build a new $3B fab in NY will add to its misery over th next year or so.

"[It] seems that the Intel CPUs are designed to satistfy some very questionable test software. But how bad - the real life is different thing! :)"

Great comment! Indeed, it's much easier to 'crack' and satisfy the simple benchmarks than to design efficient & useful processors.

Either these sites are Intel paid pumpers, or they lack the basic scientific training to do a good review.

Many of them 1) don't have control on their experiment platform, 2) don't have realistic test cases (especially for server reviews) except a few 3D games, 3) don't spend enough efforts to optimize or even debug the AMD boxes, and 4) draw exaggerated conclusions based on limited results.

OTOH, we probably shouldn't interpretate their incompetence as bad wills.

I personally know two Israeli "Coreduo" developers who would love to work there and live depressing Intel labs for good!!

Intel only exploits its engineers, never appreciate their work. For their contribution, I think Mooly Eden should be prompted to replace idiots like Pat Gelsinger. But that won't happen, because Pat Gelsinger was a yesman to Andy Grove. Now I bet the situation is the senior Intel elders are stealing the credit from hardworking Israelis.

If I remember correctly, when cnet news quoted Mooly Eden's claim that top end Conroe will be 20% better than a 2.8GHz FX-60, you Sharikou accused him. You called him a mid-ester who knows how to bluff, you said all creative works were done by Americans not some stupid mid-ester, didn't you?

Well. Bob Colwell was the guy who designed P6, Pat Gelsinger was a 386 guy. I think Mooly Eden is better than Pat G.

Oh and the INQ also said in the same article you linked:

"All this said, Intel does have a great CPU. It was delivered early, will ramp really fast, and has a stunningly good chipset that no one seems to notice. For the next few quarters, it has the lead in several key areas, no question there."

"The crash of CPU pricing will BK Intel in just a few quarters."

You've been saying this for a while... Do you care to put your money where your mouth is? I will bet you $500 that Intel will not be "BK" (I assume you mean bankrupt) in four quarters. You can run your mouth all you want but if it came to putting money at stake, I'm pretty sure you would shut your trap about this nonesense.

Intel doesn’t care about their engineers, and how they work, and what they do. If they do something great they say, Ok. They don’t care!

Because they know the important is their Marketing and sales people.

If you have a crap product like some of theirs in the past few years they know how they will sell it. Illegal schemes and good FUD.

Our great dual core processor. Copy -> Paste, than glue, Sell! Sell! Sell!

80% of the market is being filled with crap in the past years.

For graham and other "PC police" who so willingly distort the truth to enforce their views of "Political Correctness", remember that to discuss or characterize the actions of Israel is *NOT* anti-semitic. That is as per Colin Powell, former Secretary of State of the United States.

Maybe graham and the rest of the "PC police" enforcers can go to some other blog??? Maybe Stalin-Lovers-United-In-Love needs some enthusiastic enforcers to make sure the Love-For-The-Worker is inflicted properly?

Sometimes racism exists in the listener's but not the speaker's mind.

Had he spoken of Intel's "American way" of doing business, would you also say him fanboy racism?
