VMWare is far inferior to Parellels

VMWare simply sucks, stay away from it.

Reasons? I was trying use my Windows machine to run Linux in a virtual machine. VMware is highly unreliable. The problem: after installation, whenever I start the VMware the first time, the whole PC almost freezes for almost 30 minutes, with a lot of disk activity. However, subsequent shutdown/startup of the VM is quick. Running speed is ok. Very repeatable behavior. Other people reported similar problems, but the solutions they suggest do not work. Installed Parallels, no such startup issues, and the VM is much faster when running.

Well thats the first time I agree with you 100%. For Corp. users that makes sense ... but when it comes to normal user like myself ... PC's are so cheap now days I just buy another one and run Suse 11 beta on it.
Ofcourse if you want to listen to all th eners out there talking about quad cores ... batter use junk like VMware .... my dual core x6800 ES is still the fastest around when it comes to playing games and doing porn DL. :)

Yeah, you might also want to stay away from virtualization if you have any of the original K10s. The original K10s have a defect that will cause your computer to crash when using virtualization. Of course, there's a fix that will make your slow AMD processor even slower.

You are a fucking moron.

Can "Parellels" do half of what VMware ESX can do? No.

Can it even do 1/4th? No again.

PS: since you like "Parellels" so much, you must be running a Mac, which of course runs Intel processors only...

Parallels of old, allows VM of the same type ie VM windows on windows and VM linux on Linux..

Ok with the advent of AMD-V Parallels now do cross OS virtual machines. I may investigate?.

I run VMware on linux on non AMD-V opterons with no issues at all..

Using WinDoze server 2003 as a host for my VM's was totally un-reliable which is not unusual for windoze

With reference to K10's I had absolutely no problems running Server2008 running multiple VM's on B2 Phenom with no tlb patch? Indeed I was totally impressed with Server 2008 and K10, this was only a Beta...Knowing M$ brought code for Xen would explain why!

Bring on the 45nm Barcelona's

Sounds like Level 8 problem to me...
I am running VMWare ESX server on my servers, and they will run ANY operating system I feed it...

I am also running VMWare Workstation on my Dell Latitude D630 laptop (and previously on my Inspiron 8300), and it will also take anything it gets... so...

Must be Level 8 problem, no?

Hey sheridipshit, this is a blog about 64 bit computing. Guess what... Parallels doesn't work on XP x64. Are you not running XP x64 on your precious 64 bit AMD processor?
