AM2 X2 3800+ out of stock

It had a stock of over 12K units a day ago, now, it's back ordered.

Update on September 2: now it has 3000 units in stock.

Leave it to Sharikou to spin anything as a positive for AMD. Out of stock means you are missing sales revenue for your product. It may mean the customer went to the competition. It's NEVER "good"

Being that none these days have a considerable amount of cpus in his warehouse in stock but feeding is done in real-time, it does mean that AMD sold 12k and more of those cpu in one day.
The problem is when ETA of a new stock is expected in weeeks or months, not a couple of working days.

Your wrong. It means X2 is in so much demand it sold out by the thousands as soon as it came in. Thats very good business. Are you blind? I think you should get your eyes checked or learn how to understand whats happening in the world around you.

17000 items come in in the next few days. That looks like a well stocked store and that an't the only store in the world you know. Hello anybody home. Guess not cus your too stupid to figure that part out little boy. GOD!

You have no idea what your talking about intel fabboy!!! Yeah "fab"-boy sounds funnier then fanboy no. Can't see the light of damn day. AMD is sure doing a hell of a lot better to supply its customers then intel is with "CON"ROE.

And don't give me some bull, COnroe is just about impossible to get even now. Pretty sad launch. They can't even make enough. Poor poor intel I'm so not touched. I hope the company rotts in hell.

6300 is $8 over.

All are in stock. Intel is supplying enough now that Newegg has all in stock and not that inflated.

It seems AM2 X2 3800+ is again available in California. It's also available at most online retail sites.

BTW, it seems Intel is ramping Core 2 Duo well, that it's available everywhere now. The problem is that the cheapest E6300 is about the price of X2 4200+, with comparable performance. If we factor in the motherboard cost where that of C2D is higher, and also AM2's ability to go native quad core in 2007, there is no point to build a E6300/E6400 box over an X2 4200+/4600+ one.

E6600/E6700/X6800 could hardly be matched in terms of performance by any AMD offering at this moment. However the cheapest of such machine cost well above $1.2K, where the processor takes about 1/4 of the price! They are for the enthusiasts market only.

Conroe are availabe at Newegg/TigerDirect. X2 5000+ is over 100% markup(compared to AMD's MSRP of $301) at most places, talk about paper launch:(

$75 motherboard coming. And you can overclock the Conroes easy compared to AMD:P We've heard no performance numbers from AMD except '80% increase from dual to quad on cinebench for 4x4' so you really can't buy AMD in hope of native quads(reliability on motherboard, performance).
Intel's quads are everywhere on http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/
and they do work on Conroe boards.

E6600 for $350 is a pretty good buy, competes handily with FX62.

Sorry, but do you work as a sales engineer in an engineered products company (not semicon)? But we supply people like Lam, AMAT, and others who build the machines that process the semicon wafers. Out of stock means:

1) customer has to wait to get revenue (enjoyment/productivity for a computer user) out of their end product. OOS means LOST revenue!! Terrible situation.

2) Too much out of stock means chronic supplier issues, which means a damaged customer-supplier relationship. Again, very bad. It means your customer ultimately has to shop the competition even if they really like your stuff.

3) There's an old saying: Price, quality, delivery, pick 2 - meaning that most companies can only get 2 of the 3 key componets. AMD has proven that they do good quality and good price/perfomance. But you only excel when you're a 3 out of 3 company. End of story. AMD better execute on this Dell thing or they'll be out.

Oh, and I'd rate the E6300/E6400 about the equivalent per formance of a X2 4600/4800+, not the 4200 and certainly not the 3800.

I read that Intel "BadAxe"? is that right, and the upcoming Abit (Abit AW9D Series) board will both be Kentsfield capable, I am not sure of others, but I read that Conroe boards are also Kentsfield boards, maybe not all but most highend.

If you look at applications such as DivX encoding, then maybe. For application such as SuperPi, not even X2 4800+ can match the performance of E6300. However, in average, and for most real-world applications, E6300 is no better than X2 4200+, and E6400 no better than X2 4600+.

p.s. Do get a few decent memory modules.

Looking at tom's hardware CPU benches, it looks like the e6300 can beat the hell out of everything amd has including real world apps. Can anyone provide links to benches where the core 2 doesnt't kick the crap out the atholons? What gives???

Both Conroe & X2 are good but having Conroe lead in the performance. But I'm gonna build a 4GB system. From the CPU errata, I'm afraid that Conroe goes haywire with 4GB RAM.

Anyone has a 4GB Conroe system to verify?

Unless you use FBDIMM's you should do just fine with 4GB of ram

Tom's Hardware is biased. Look for another site for reviews. (also avoid Anandtech)

That would increase my cost and boot the benefit of price/performance ratio Conroe has. Anyway I'm still not 100% sure FBDIMM >=4GB works flawlessly on Conroe.

FX competes with the EE.
E6600 is not EE.

The X2 3800+ beat most of the Intel CPUs two months ago including the more expensive EE. So what’s your point?

Besides, most people spends an maximum of 100$ to 150$ just for the CPU. At those prices Intel as nothing!

I could buy and 3500+, 3700+, 3800+ and kill all P4 CPUs in tests including the dual cores. And I still keep money to buy a good HDD, Mother board, RAM and GPU. There goes your $350 CPU...
